Pokémon's new Special Delivery Box from the Pokémon Center could be an exciting way to pick up a good bundle of merchandise, but it's a much more confusing purchase than the average item available on the website. As the official online Pokémon retail store, the Pokémon Center is constantly adding new games, plush toys, accessories, and more, recently debuting a range of Halloween items for 2024. The Special Delivery Box has just landed on the website, and it can only be pre-ordered for the moment, with the product set to ship in November.

The Special Delivery Box isn't so much a new piece of merchandise as it is a new way to acquire some, bundling a variety of goods into one package. Considering the mystery box aspect of the product, locking in a pre-order will inherently come with some level of risk. Even so, a defined distribution of items and official examples of what can come inside provide a good look at what any Pokémon Special Delivery box buyer can expect.

Each Special Delivery Box available from the Pokémon Center contains ten Pokémon items. These are selected from current or recent products on the site, so it doesn't look like there will be any chance to get rare surprises from the back corners of the warehouse.

The box ships as standard cardboard packaging, but a reversible interior features a design of Pikachu delivering a gift. Anyone planning to give a Special Delivery Box as a present should turn it inside out upon arrival.

The Special Delivery Box can be pre-ordered from its product listing page on the official Pokémon Center website, where it's listed for $49.99, a price that's charged upon shipment rather than up front. The pre-order window is open until 11:59 P.M. on October 22 or as long as supplies last, with a purchase limit of one for each customer.

For customers in the United States, the price should include shipping, as the threshold for free standard shipping is only $20.

All sales on the Special Delivery Box are final, but pre-orders can be canceled before payment has been processed. The product is expected to ship in early November 2024, with the Pokémon Center promising to notify customers of any changes to the release date.

Images on the Pokémon Center provide examples of what to expect from each category of included item. The figures appear to be the standard $14.99 options in the Moods and Delicious Adventure lines available on the website, with a selection that includes Skitty, Meowth, Phanpy, Meditite, Bagon, Pikachu, and Eevee. Example plushes are valued between $16.99 and $24.99 and cover everything from classic starters like Bulbasaur to all three forms of Tatsugiri.

The Pokémon Center's latest merchandise line is all about celebrating some of the most beloved critters from all the way back in Generation 1.

The three-packs of pins each focus on a specific evolutionary line, with options like Smoliv, Dolliv, and Arboliva or any of the three Scarlet & Violet starter Pokémon and their respective evolutions. The hats are all baseball caps valued between $24.99 and $29.99, each emblazoned with an image of a Pokémon on the front of the crown.

As for the TCG booster packs, most of the list focuses on fairly recent sets. Scarlet & Violet sets are represented by the original expansion, Paldea Evolved, Obsidian Flames, and Paradox Rift, while Sword & Shield squeezes in with Fusion Strike. The odd one out is Sun & Moon, which originally released in 2017. Card sleeves shown as examples feature Koraidon, Miraidon, Gyrados, Lucario, Porygon, Luxray, and Impidimp.

The newest Pokémon TCG card has been revealed as a promo for a popular Pokémon, with some special cameos in the background that are easy to miss.

The product description states that "items you may receive are shown in the image gallery," so there might not be a chance to get anything that isn't depicted in the examples. Either way, the Special Delivery Box will be a gamble, but it does pack a lot of value into one purchase for Pokémon fans.

Spanning over twenty-five years, Pokemon, known as Pocket Monsters in Japan, is the multimedia franchise created jointly by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. Conceptualized by Satoshi Tajiri in association with Ken Sugimori and Junichi Masuda, Pokemon is set in fictional worlds where people live together with tamable creatures known as Pokemon. Humans who catch, raise, and battle the creatures are known as Pokemon Trainers. They head out on extensive journeys across their continents to raise their Pokemon with the ultimate goal of competing in tournaments to become the champion. Pokemon spans several massive properties, from a long-running animated series to a successful trading card game, to the medium that started it all, video games. In addition, Pokemon began the "two-game" trend where two versions of a game would release and include different Pokemon/features between the versions, encouraging players to meet up with others and trade so they could "catch 'em all."
