“Flowers make me happy. They are like people, each unique in appearance, some shy, some bold and the UrbanStems ‘The Glow Up’ Bouquet from the Bridgerton Collection is a head-turner for sure. As an unapologetic romance genre fan, I couldn't resist this timely collaboration. I loved this bouquet precisely because of how vibrant and beautiful each flower was on its own, but how it came together to form a cohesive ensemble. Call it my diamond of the season, Shonda Rhimes would be proud of this bouquet.”—Maya Layne, entertainment associate

“I’ve had many peony bouquets over the years, and don’t think I have ever seen such vibrant and animated ones in my life! They were already big and bulbous when they came out of the box, but once they started blossoming they looked larger than life. As the petals opened up, the color changed from a deep fuchsia pink to a more pale peach—a sensory delight! They weren’t particularly fragrant, but I didn’t mind that as some bouquets can be overpowering in a small space. As for delivery, they arrived fast with no excess packaging and easy-to-flatten box.” —Talia Abbas, senior shopping editor

“I’m a relatively new cat mom, and I recently learned that many flowers are toxic to cats if ingested. My favorites include ranunculus and peonies! The good news is that Roses are pet-friendly—and these roses were equally as fragrant as they were vibrant. I adore BloomsyBox’s Pet Safe options because I don’t have to hide my bouquets on the highest possible shelf from my fur-baby Ophelia. Plus, the packaging was easy to break down (after Ophelia played in the box, of course)—It seems the arrangement was a gift for us both” —Conçetta Ciarlo, events associate manager

“My Bouqs delivery arrived at my door quite effortlessly! There was only a small amount of packaging, a box to surround and protect the vase, which was easily removed and recycled. I transferred my stems over to my own from Marloe Marloe vase. I can never find tulips at the stores near me and these look like the fresh farmers’ market bouquets I’d normally have venture out on weekends for. They add a very welcomed pop of color to my living room!”—Madeline Fass, senior shopping market editor

Need a thoughtful gift idea for mom, an upcoming anniversary or just because? Fresh flowers! Whether it’s a special arrangement for the occasion or a monthly subscription, any recipient would be delighted to receive a lively bouquet of blooms. Seasonal creations are always available, so you don’t have to settle for just a dozen red roses—you can pick a bouquet that’ll truly speak to your giftee, whether’s it the environmentally conscious coworker (think Farmgirl Flowers) or your minimalist fashion friend (Flowerbx). Plus, depending on your zip code, most of these services offer same or next-day delivery.
Justin Lievano, floral designer and educator at UrbanStems tells Vogue his favorite flowers to gift (for any occasion) are those that transform over time. A great example are tulips, he says, “as they move and bend in the vase, plus can grow up to nine inches once they’re in water.” He adds, “Watching them develop creates a new experience every time you see them, and it’s really magical!” Peonies, ranunculi, roses—all these flowers have their own growth phases so pick whatever seasonal bloom speaks to you and/or your giftee.
“Most bouquets will last about seven days, depending on the varieties of flowers included,” Lievano says. Dahlias, for example, he says, typically last four or five days, while some roses can last up to two weeks with proper care.
Lievano has many tips, but he stresses clean water as the most important. “To truly maximize vase life, you’ll want to trim your stems and change the water in the vase every two days or so.” He likens flower stems to big straws, “and bacterial growth that blocks up those straws ultimately kills your flowers!”
Another pro tip he shares? Keep your flowers out of sunlight and away from heat to further discourage bacterial growth. Keeping them away from any produce is also essentials, Lievano says, as “ripening fruit and veggies release ethylene gas, which ages flowers.”
Lastly, as you enjoy your flowers, Lievano recommends pulling out any that begin to wilt since these “also emit ethylene gas that damages their neighbors in the vase.”
Signing up for a subscription is as easy as placing any online order—choose the frequency, type of bouquet, and add in all the relevant info. Some services offer add-ons, so make sure to opt in (or out) to get the most out of your experience. And if you or your giftee is planning a trip in the near future, you can also schedule deliveries around those times to ensure no bouquet is left unattended on the doorstep.
