Comfort Station's Native Plant Sale Returns For 2nd Year

LOGAN SQUARE — Comfort Station is selling native plant kits again this spring to fund programs at the nonprofit multidisciplinary art space.

Comfort Station's native plant sale kicked off Monday and will run through May 29, or while supplies last, organization leaders said in a news release.

Similar to last year, the organization at 2579 N. Milwaukee Ave. is selling curated boxes of native plants that cater to various garden conditions, including plants that thrive in full sun and others that do well in partial shade.

The locally sourced plants are ideal for container gardens or garden beds, organization leaders said. New this year is the full sun medicinal/herbal garden kit and full shade garden box.

The kits are larger this year, at 30 and 40 square feet, and cost $100-$110.

Like last year, Comfort Station is taking pre-orders online. Buyers will pick up their kits June 4.

All proceeds will benefit Comfort Station programs. The arts space regularly hosts art exhibitions, concerts, film screenings and other community gatherings, all of which are free and open to the public.

In conjunction with the sale, Jeremy Ohmes, of Wild World Gardens, is slated to lead a native plant workshop May 21 on Comfort Station's lawn. There will be a limited assortment of plants available for sale at the event.

Vanessa Oniboni and Pophana Brandes of Mycelium Permaculture & Co-Design are also scheduled to lead an interactive workshop 10 a.m. May 28 at Comfort Station. This event, called Re-Centering Water, will center around rain gardening in an urban environment.

Both events are free and open to the public.
