A fire engine, two support vehicles and roughly half a dozen Livingston Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a smoldering flower box at Loaves and Fishes on Wednesday at around 12 p.m. Passersby noticed smoke and flames emitting from a flower box in front of the Main Street food kitchen, which is dedicated to feeding the hungry. “We saw flames and dumped water on it,” said Callie Carroll, owner of M.T. Roots, a thrift store on Main Street. “Someone puts out a cigarette in there and it starts something like this every year,” said Rosa Simmons, director of Loaves and Fishes, presuming the cause of the incident. “Usually I get there before the fire department arrives.”
