Christmas will be here before you know it—and nothing brings on the holiday spirit quite like snagging one of the best advent calendars ahead of time. There’s a treat-filled countdown for every type of reveler, from those who enjoy gourmet chocolates to ones who love pampering themselves with luxe beauty products. There are also 12-day calendars for more impatient celebrants (like this set of a dozen Voluspa candles) and family-friendly options that pack games, puzzles and DIY activities.

The best advent calendars in 2024 include artisan chocolate, luxe beauty and home products, DIY ... [+] activities and more.

It’s worth considering some more unique countdown boxes as well, which are filled with everything from jam spreads and whiskey to stationery and socks. Because there’s a lot to sort through—and the best advent calendars sell out quick—I’ve done the research for you and rounded up 59 of the best options to gift your loved ones (or buy for yourself) this year.

Sugarfina

Sugarfina’s candies always make great gifts, and this year’s advent calendar is right on the money. Resembling a gingerbread house, the 24-day countdown has four pieces of candy in each one of its drawers. They’ll find everything from delicious peppermint bark cookies and red apple caramels to cute gummies shaped like snowmen and Christmas trees.

Harry & David

Harry & David always delivers on the variety front, and this year’s “Best Of” advent calendar (our favorite food advent calendar overall) is no different. Behind its doors, the decorated box is brimming with 24 days’ worth of snacking delights including mixed nuts, chocolate truffles, cookies, popcorn, sausage, relish and more.

Amazon

Bonne Maman’s classic advent calendar is back for 2024, and this year’s version should please any holiday-loving foodie. They’ll find 24 mini jars of preserves inside the illustrated box, with limited-edition flavor blends (think: Caramel With Coffee, Guava And Raspberry, and Apricot With Orange Blossom) that are worth savoring.

FabFitFun

I tried FabFitFun’s advent calendar and I must say, you really do get a lot for the price. The drawers of the festive box are mostly stocked with full-sized beauty products from popular brands like Fenty Beauty, Tower28 and Thrive Cosmetics (you’ll also get a Malin+Goetz candle and a sparkly jewelry surprise from Adina Eden). The items are all pretty great, but when you factor in their collective worth—the contents of the box is valued at over $350—you’ll realize what an actual steal it is to only shell out $90 for such a trove. To get the deal, you do need to sign up for a FabFitFun membership—but it already ranks as one of our best subscription boxes for women, so it’s worth the investment.

Total Wine

Adventurous wine drinkers are bound to enjoy this festive advent calendar from Total Wine. Each box includes 24 single servings (187ml bottles) of different varietals from around the world, including Argentinean malbecs, French pinot noirs and South African sauvignon blancs. Note that the wine selection may vary by location, and shipping is not available to every state; store pickup may be an option depending on where you live.

harry & david

Another great option from one of our favorite gift basket purveyors, this Harry & David advent calendar boasts strictly cookies. But there are all kinds here, with festive flavors like Chocolate Cherry and Chocolate Peppermint, plus gingerbread sandwiches, raspberry-filled shortbread cookies and more.

Williams Sonoma

With 24 treats made by an Austrian baker, the Vienna Cookie Company’s advent calendar is a daily delight. The creative assortment includes coconut balls, chocolate-walnut truffles and classic gingerbread people behind its holiday-themed doors. Sweet but simple.

Amazon

Sometimes, less is more—and Walker’s shortbread cookie advent calendar is proof. The countdown box includes 24 of the traditional buttery delights from Scotland, with six varieties including star-shaped shortbread, chocolate-chip and salted caramel squares.

Vosges Haut-Chocolat

For a delicious and stunning advent calendar, look no further than Vosges Haut-Chocolat. This year’s offering is designed to look like a Nordic forest chalet; behind each door, you’ll find unique treasures ranging from caramels and mini exotic chocolate bars to happy hedgehogs and magical gnomes. At the push of a button, Christmas music starts to play as glowing lights illuminate the scene. Having seen this one in the flesh and, as a huge fan of the brand’s chocolate, I can say that it’s a serious showstopper—and you’ll still be dreaming of the treats long after Christmas Day.

Compartes Chocolates | Gourmet Chocolate Gifts

Inspired by a wintry evening spent under the northern lights, this advent calendar by Compartés’ (which also makes our gift editors’ favorite Valentine’s chocolate) boasts a beautiful design and delicious sweets. Each door opens to reveal a different treat, with 24 flavors to discover in total. It’s elegant and downright delectable.

Godiva

Having sampled Godiva’s advent calendar, I am happy to confirm that it is the ultimate treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. With perfectly festive yet decidedly simple packaging, it’s a no-frills experience that focuses on the task at hand: surprising its recipient with decadent bites for 24 days straight. But for a very reasonable $40, you’ll get to enjoy a delicious assortment of milk, dark and white chocolates that’s hiding behind two dozen doors.

Amazon

Keurig users, rejoice. The brand’s 24-pod holiday sampler features seasonal coffees from roasters like Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Lavazza, Caribou Coffee, Cinnabon and La Colombe Coffee Roasters. There are also K-Cups that make hot cocoa, iced beverages and one-step lattes, which contain coffee, sweetener and dairy all in one recyclable K-Cup, and brew at the touch of a button.

Amazon

Tea Forté’s Warming Joy advent calendar lives up to its name—it will, in fact, keep you nice and toasty come December. I received both versions of this countdown—the red box that contains 24 black, green, white and herbal teas and the white box that’s filled with a dozen assorted tea blends. Both advent calendars feature the brand’s signature pyramid infusers and will please any teatime enthusiast, so really, it just comes down to a choice of blends. You could also opt to receive them as a pair, should you want to enjoy two cups per day like I did (or treat a fellow tea-drinking companion).

Flaviar

This advent calendar will get any whiskey fan in the holiday “spirit.” The set from Flaviar (which also makes our favorite spirits subscription box) contains two dozen 50ml vials of the good stuff—bestsellers and new releases alike—so you’re sure to discover a few favorites. You’ll also get two Glencairn tasting glasses and an interactive booklet with notes for each sample. Cheers to that.

maker wine

This calendar is for the vino appreciators who want to discover new wines as they count down to Christmas. Maker Wine’s set of 12 cans features a combination of limited-edition red, white, rose and sparkling wines made by minority- and female-led small production wineries. Also included: complimentary tasting videos for each wine and an optional gift note. Note that, if you’re shopping for a wine lover in your life, this advent calendar won’t ship until early November 2024—but you can pre-order it now.

hotel chocolat

Hot chocolate lovers are in for a treat (or 24 of them) with this advent calendar from British chocolate maker Hotel Chocolat. The packets don’t contain mere hot cocoa powder; instead, they’re made with flakes of real chocolate (made from Ghana-grown cacao) that melt once whisked into warm milk. You’ll get a different prominent tasting note in each cup, from peppermint to salted caramel. You might also want to pair this calendar with the Velvetiser hot chocolate maker, which makes the process of making velvety-smooth European-style hot chocolate—and cleanup—a lot simpler.

Straightaway Cocktails

The 12 Nights Of Cocktails set by Straightaway Cocktails comes with 12 delicious expertly-crafted drinks like a maple old fashioned, Thai gimlet and espresso martini sure to get anyone in a festive mood. It’s a great hostess gift if you don’t want to bring a standard bottle of wine to the party, or just a fun way to taste test new drinks at home. You can pre-order the bundle now and it will ship by November 18.

Mudpuppy

Mudpuppy’s 12-day countdown may look like it’s just for kids, but it’s actually a delight for dog lovers of all ages. I found it hard not to smile the moment I opened the cartoon canine-covered box; inside, its windows are filled with a dozen 48-piece mini puzzles that can be done solo or as a family activity. Naturally, each completed puzzle features festive pups engaging in holiday traditions of their own. Trust me when I say that each one is cuter than the last.

Amazon

Any escape room–loving family will enjoy the Exit: The Game Advent Calendar. A 24-day-long puzzle, it centers on the mystery of a Hollywood star who has disappeared while filming a Christmas movie. Each door holds a card with an important riddle; solve one clue and you’ll find out which door to open next. It’s recommended for adults and kids age 10 and up.

Amazon

I could tell that this whimsical 12-day countdown from Galison would be a good one before I even opened the first door. The advent calendar includes a dozen 80-piece puzzles, each of which features one of Andy Warhol’s famous Christmas drawings or paintings from the 1950s. While it would be a particularly great gift for any noted Warhol fan, you really don’t have to be an art enthusiast to appreciate piecing together the iconic holiday-themed designs here. For another festive option, the brand’s Winter Lights Christmas Countdown puzzles depict seasonal city scenes that are also quite fun.

Charlotte Tilbury

It’s no secret why Charlotte Tilbury’s advent calendar is called the Beauty Treasure Chest Of Love. The heart-shaped 12-door keepsake felt special from the moment that I unboxed it—so much so, I didn’t even want to spoil the magic for myself in order to write this review (don’t worry, I did). Inside, I found a mix of full-sized and mini products, with some of my personal favorite Pillow Talk-hued essentials (including the cult-favorite lip liner) along with the brand’s best-selling skincare and makeup essentials. Once the countdown is complete, the chest is meant to be reused as a jewelry box—and I can say with certainty that I will be filling its jewel-handled drawers with my own favorite sparklers.

Neiman Marcus

Sisley Paris went all out for its 2024 advent calendar. The box itself pays tribute to the City of Light, decorated with intricate illustrations by British artist Fee Greening. Inside, it houses a luxurious assortment of the brand’s best-selling skincare, fragrance, hair and makeup products. You’ll find full-sized items—lipstick, eye contour mask, eyeshadow—as well as travel-sized versions of decadent creams, volumizing hairspray, perfume and more.

Sephora

La Mer is one of the most luxe skincare brands out there, so naturally, its advent calendar is the epitome of top-tier indulgence. The stunning green-and-gold box features 12 days of beauty surprises that range from silky serums and moisturizing creams to revitalizing hand, eye and lip treatments. The iconic Crème De La Mer is included as well.

Augustinus Bader

Skincare junkies, this one’s for you. Augustinus Bader’s 12-day countdown is as on-brand as they come, with regal blue and gold packaging to match that of its in-demand products. The stash itself is made up of a dozen science-backed serums, rich face and body creams, eye masks, lip balms and then some. It’ll keep you (or any lucky recipient) glowing all winter long.

Abbott Lyon US

For an extra-special Christmas countdown, treat your giftee to Abbott Lyon’s personalized Made More You Advent Calendar. I received the storybook-shaped box, which was customized with my name to read “Sam’s Advent Calendar” on the front cover. What’s really special here is that 4 of the 12 silver or gold-plated pieces can also be personalized; I was pleased to discover both a bracelet and charm with my initial on it, as well as jewelry featuring my birthstone (a heart-shaped pendant and a sweet little ring). Other standouts included a tennis necklace with a matching bracelet and two pairs of pavé-set earrings. Valued at over $600, this one makes for a lovely present—it literally has their name on it—and the box is worth saving as a functional keepsake.

Leatherology

This Leatherology countdown is all about the accessories—and let me tell you, they are chic. It all starts with the large decorative black croc box, which is made from Italian leather and retails for $220 on its own. Obviously you’ll want to put that on display after unwrapping the 12 goodies inside (I know I did), but it’s worth taking your time to savor the daily discoveries. Among the neutral-hued, on-the-go essentials I was excited to discover a very handy drawstring pouch, a scrunchie and an Airpod case; but it’s the luggage tag, card case and keychain that can be personalized (with up to three initials in gold, for no extra fee) that really seal the deal.

Sabon

With Sabon’s advent calendar, you get a whopping 31 days of spa-worthy presents to unbox. That’s right: you’ll receive one standard 24-day countdown, plus an extra 7-day box to keep the fun going right up until the end of 2024. The total selection includes full- and travel-size bath and body faves ranging from body scrubs and oils to shampoos and hand creams, all in the brand’s popular fresh scents (lavender vanilla, delicate jasmine, green rose and more).

sephora

L’Occitane’s advent calendar includes a selection of 24 bestsellers ($115 worth of them), and while they may seem no-frills, they’re properly indulgent and perfect for at-home pampering. The essential oil–infused assortment will boost both skin and hair radiance. Combined with the brand’s signature beloved scents (like Néroli & Orchidée and Verveine & Agrumes), it’s pretty hard to beat.

Amazon

The Body Shop’s pop-up advent calendar has everything they’ll need for a month of self-care. Pampering bath products include fragrant soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, while moisturizing shea body butter, an almond milk hand balm and a vitamin E face mask will have their skin glowing all winter.

Aman

Aman’s second annual advent calendar is focused on the art of wellbeing, and having tested some of the products included in this year’s assortment firsthand, I can tell you that they certainly do leave you feeling all kinds of pampered. Inside the elaborate Mount Fuji-decorated box, you’ll be treated to the luxury beauty and lifestyle products used at the legendary Aman Resorts around the globe, with a special focus on the locations in Japan. From rich body lotions and creams to pulse-point remedy fragrances, it’s all here; you’ll even get a pumice stone and some incense. Make sure to soak this one in.

Astrid & Miyu

In the jewelry realm, Astrid & Miyu’s advent calendars are top-tier. This year, the brand is offering this 12-Day countdown in both silver and gold, as well as a 24-day option and a premium solid 9kt gold version. I tried out the 12-day advent calendar in gold, and it did not disappoint. First off, the reusable jewelry box itself is so pretty that I plan to use it for storage. But the 18kt gold-plated treasures I found inside were the sparkly styles of any jewelry lover’s dreams. My favorite pieces were the chunky pavé hoops, a crystal ear cuff and a pair of opal-set huggies with pearl charms. One drawer included a $70 voucher to choose a final piece online or in-store, and I thought that was a special touch.

Sterling Forever

Too impatient to make your way through a countdown that lasts 12 or 24 days? Sterling Forever has you covered. Although the jewelry brand does offer a larger advent calendar, this one is just 5 days long—and it’s specifically focused on elevating your hoops game. You’ll have a choice between gold or silver tones; I received the gold version of the colorful box, which included five pairs of versatile earrings in different sizes and shapes. My favorite thing about each pair is that they’re hypoallergenic (lead- and nickel-free), but it’s also worth mentioning that each pair is waterproof and tarnish-resistant. Even better, all of Sterling Forever’s jewelry is backed by a lifetime guarantee, so you’ll get free repairs or replacements should anything happen to a piece.

Local Eclectic

Your favorite jewelry lover will be sparkling all holiday season thanks to Local Eclectic’s countdown. Valued at $572, the chic box includes 12 gold-plated pieces from a range of designers that are carried on the website (including Petit Moments, La Kaiser, Elizabeth Stone and Ettika), as well as Local Eclectic’s own brand, For You, With Love. With colorful earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces and charms, there’s so much to explore—and having received a sneak peek at the box, I can say they’re just as statement-making in real life as they are in the photos. The opal-adorned pieces are particularly striking, and will surely serve as conversation starters at any seasonal soirée.

Swarovski

Looking for peak holiday luxury? Swarovski’s advent calendar is your answer. This year’s red countdown box has 25 doors, and each one opens to reveal a dazzling decorative object. You (or your very lucky recipient) will end up with a sparkling holiday train for the mantel, as well as some truly spectacular ornaments that will light up the tree one day at a time—and can be cherished for many Christmases to come.

Neiman Marcus

This year, Baobab Collection’s annual advent calendar is inspired by travel, with 24 fragrances that evoke destinations ranging from Mykonos to Miami. The elegant box—which is charmingly illustrated with hot air balloons—opens to reveal 12 miniature versions of the brand’s popular scented candles, in addition to 6 hand creams and 6 colorful bar soaps. It’s extravagant in the best of ways.

Diptyque

Designed to resemble a sewing box, Diptyque’s advent calendar boasts 25 treasures behind its sliding drawers. You’ll find three festive new candles in addition to a limited-edition assortment of 10 mL-sized personal fragrances and home products like an odor-removing candle and decorative pendants. It’s worth saving (and reusing) the enchanting felt-covered box, which is part of the brand’s holiday collaboration with artist Lucy Sparrow.

Papier

Stationery lovers will be particularly excited about Papier’s annual advent calendar—but really, it’ll be appreciated by anyone who works at a desk. I was lucky enough to get my hands on this year’s reusable gift box, which has 24 paper treasures (worth $250) in its drawers. I was pleased to find a very practical assortment of notebooks, notecards and sticky notes inside, in addition to fun surprises like a bookmark, stamp set, mini puzzle, and pencil case. Since it’s not overtly holiday-themed, the box itself would make a nice desk organizer—once you’re done unwrapping the goods inside, of course.

Happy Socks

A new pair of socks every day, for 24 days. Who wouldn’t want that? The Happy Socks advent calendar is fun and practical, since it’ll upgrade any sock drawer in full with just one purchase. Thanks to the brand’s lively prints and patterns, it’ll also add some whimsy to any wardrobe (and make a fun white elephant gift).

Barnes & Noble

Anyone who could use some stress relief—or enjoys a bit of tactile play—will find Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty countdown to be worth it. I know that I, for one, enjoyed the brand’s 24-day advent calendar. Hiding behind its windows are tins of glittering textured putty—some of which are exclusive to this holiday set—as well as festive mix-ins and surprise holiday charms. For kids, it offers a creative and hands-on STEM-focused activity; for adults who need to fidget, it serves as a satisfying way to keep those hands busy.

VAHDAM® USA

Whether you’re looking to flex your own culinary skills or are searching for a gift for someone who’s obsessed with The Bear, Vahdam India’s 24 Spices of Christmas countdown is a winner. Within its colorful drawers, the box packs two dozen authentic single-origin spices, all of which have been freshly sourced from India’s finest farms. To that kind of flavor, all we have to say is…yes, chef.

Target

Start any little one’s Elf on the Shelf obsession early with the brand’s interactive countdown of collectibles. Kids 3 years and up will be entertained for 24 days straight as they discover 9 mix-and-match drivers, cars and accessories fresh from the North Pole. Parents will appreciate the fact that it keeps young revelers busy as they enjoy their new toys—having received it myself, I was particularly impressed that the racetrack play mat folds down directly from the box, setting the sweet action-packed Christmas scene in one fell swoop.

Amazon

December can be fun and educational with National Geographic’s gemstone advent calendar. Each day, kids (or adults) will find a polished gemstone—ranging from agate to tiger’s eye—to add to their collection. On day 24, they’ll even get to play geologist by excavating a rose quartz from a mini dig brick. The brand also offers a jumbo Science Kit & Rock Collection Advent Calendar, which packs 24 days of experiments and gemstones.

etsy

Looking to fill the days (or nights) before Christmas with DIY activities? The whole family can get in on the fun with Kirsten Field’s crafty countdown, which boasts 25 kits to create just as many felt-and-sticker ornaments. With no sewing or glue required, it’s a mess-free way to keep the kids busy and personalize this year’s tree.

kiwico

Trust the makers of our favorite kids’ subscription box to offer children their most exciting holiday countdown yet. Meant for kiddos age 5 and up, KiwiCo’s Advent Calendar Bundle contains everything they’ll need to build two festive scenes: a Christmas village and Santa’s Railroad. Each day, they’ll open a new envelope of instructions to add to each display—and the opportunity to add their own personal touch. Plus, the envelopes are designed to double as Christmas decor or be made into a cheery garland.

Amazon

Playmobil’s advent calendar is Christmas market-themed, and it’s bound to spark any little one’s imagination as they play. Over the course of 24 days, kiddos age 4 and up will discover a whole range of colorful small toys including adorable animals, an ice skating rink and festive decorations that set a picturesque—and very merry—scene. There is also, of course, a Santa figure.

Petco

Your favorite pup deserves only the best dog gifts—and that includes their very own exciting holiday countdown. I know that the Merry Makings 12-Day Dog Toy Advent Calendar will be a hit with most dogs, because it certainly was with my own pup, Dexter. The large box was, in itself, tail wag-worthy, but with a dozen plush, rope and ball toys behind its wreath-adorned windows, it was a fun experience for everyone (myself included). The plush mug of hot cocoa was a favorite; the next best thing to a pup cup, perhaps? Dexter and I also tried out the dog treat version of the canine countdown, which he found to be incredibly tasty; there’s also a dog chew option, as well as advent calendars for cats and small animals.

bonne et filou

Bonne et Filou’s Chateau Advent Calendar offers only the highest-quality dog treats behind each door: 24 handmade, all-natural snacks made with human-grade ingredients. The scrumptious selection includes yogurt “bones” with sprinkles, truffles, peanut butter macarons and more.

Amazon

Want your feline to join in on the festivities? Get them an advent calendar filled with delectable and high-quality cat treats. Lily’s Kitchen offers 12 pillow-shaped biscuits that are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside; they’re made with freshly prepared salmon, chicken and turkey–no fillers or artificial ingredients. Plus, kitties with sensitive tummies can enjoy them.

BARK

With 16 toys and 8 treats behind its vibrant windows, Bark’s Season’s Sweetings Advent Calendar was a joy to review. My dog, Dexter very much enjoyed the festive gingerbread men-shaped treats, as well as a frosted candy cane that had him absolutely drooling. He found the toys to be quite play-worthy, too, so it was truly a fun experience for everyone (myself included). Fair warning that you’ll have to find a hiding spot for the giant box in between daily reveals, otherwise your pup will sniff it out and focus on begging for his or her next surprise.

Williams Sonoma

Jolly or not, any recipient’s heart will grow three sizes as soon as they set their sights on The Grinch Advent Calendar from Williams Sonoma. It’s impossible not to smile when counting down to Christmas with the grumpy Dr. Seuss character’s sweet set, which has caramels, gummies and chocolates behind its 24 doors. The brand’s Elf Advent Calendar also deserves a shout-out for any holiday movie buff.

Amazon

Can’t wait for Wicked to hit theaters? Same. Trust me when I say that you won’t regret treating yourself (or your favorite fan of all things Oz) to the movie’s official advent calendar. Inspired by the Emerald City, the book-style countdown’s 25 interior pockets—some of which are emblazoned with phrases like “pink goes good with green” and “not your basic witch”—are filled with novelty goodies tied to the film. If you’ve ever wanted some magical merch of your own, you’ll be pleased to find a practical mix of magnets, coasters, stickers and more in this epic Shiz University stash. I didn’t want it to end, and I may or may not be typing this from a laptop that’s now covered in Wicked stickers.

Amazon

Need a gift for a fan of The Simpsons? This advent calendar will bring a pop-up version of TV’s most famous cartoon living room right to their own home. I opened the box’s 24 doors to uncover Christmas-ready collectibles from the beloved show, including 1.5-inch figures of Homer and Marge (dressed as Mr. and Mrs. Claus, respectively). The fold-down flap features a pop-up TV and other Simpsons’ staples, and as they’re revealed, the toys can be displayed around the mat to create a festive Springfield scene.

Aldo

The Glinda or Elphaba in your life surely needs another countdown tied to Wicked’s theatrical release. Part of Aldo’s collaboration with the film, this one will bring them 12 days of accessory-filled magic with 5 sparkling hair accessories, 5 pairs of earrings, a necklace and a charm bracelet. The colorful mix of stones proves once and for all that pink does, in fact, go good with green.

Voluspa

Set the ultimate cozy mood with Voluspa’s fragrant 12-day advent calendar. I’ll start by saying that this metallic patterned packaging is stunning—it just looks and feels downright luxe. Inside, there are a dozen petite pedestal candles from the brand’s best-selling Japonica and Holiday fragrance collections (scents include Spiced Pumpkin Latte, Forbidden Fig and Sparkling Cuvée), plus a gold-plated wick trimmer as an added bonus. I’d also suggest checking out the brand’s Japonica Archive 12-Piece Candle Set, which is roughly half the price and also makes a great gift.

pottery barn kids

This best-selling Pottery Barn Kids exclusive advent calendar will light up the eyes of both kids and parents alike. This beautifully hand-finished wooden train has four cars, each with six numbered windows that you can fill with festive treats of your choice; the 25th day gets its own train car. Our favorite part? It also functions as a piece of décor fit for your fireplace mantle or under the tree.

ESPA

The ultimate spa lover’s haul, ESPA’s advent calendar offers a little bit of everything on the wellness front. Inside of the red box’s drawers you’ll find 25 little luxuries including blissful essential oils, rich body creams, hydrating serums and cleansing scrubs. Meant to restore mind and body balance through skincare and aromatherapy, the countdown also includes a winter spice votive candle to set a calm but seasonally appropriate mood.

lovery

Looking for a healthy dose of pampering that’s still within your holiday budget? Lovery’s 12-day advent calendar is an inspired choice. Among its relaxing treats, I discovered a candle, perfume, body oil, bath salts, hand masks and fuzzy socks. Topping it all off: A sparkling sterling silver necklace with a halo CZ pendant, which I found to be a very tasteful inclusion here considering the total cost. Honestly, for such a wide range of surprises, you just can’t beat that it’s under $70.

See's Candies

The truffles and lollipops in See’s Candies’ advent calendar will satisfy any sugar craving. Meant to open like a classic hinged storybook, the whimsical gift box resembles a festive home with pop-up illustrations, as well as one pound of individually wrapped chocolates inside of its drawers.

XO Marshmallow

Want a sweet advent calendar that’s also a bit outside the box? In lieu of the standard chocolate, candy or cookie options out there, XO Marshmallow brings something a bit more niche to the table: 25 tasty and gluten-free marshmallows in unexpected flavors like Espresso Martini, Apple Pie, Gingerbread and Mint Chocolate Chip. I’ll admit that I was skeptical, but after trying it out, I have to say: This one is actually quite delicious. It was also fun to try and guess each day’s surprise flavor, which is listed at the back of its compartment.

The best advent calendar to get depends on your budget and what you’re looking for, whether that’s something food-focused, beauty-related or family-friendly. The best edible offerings range from premium chocolate at Vosges Haut-Chocolat and Compartés to a medley of sweet and savory snacks from Harry & David. Beauty-wise, you can’t go wrong with a high-end product assortment from La Mer. For family fun, choose activity-based advent calendars like National Geographic’s gemstone hunt or Mudpuppy’s dog-themed puzzle. There are also plenty of unique options that make for great gifts, like Papier’s stylish stationery set or two dozen colorful pairs of Happy Socks.
